I find it interesting that when life is great, and there are no issues, we are happy. But what happens when adversity comes your way? Is your mood or your state of mind going to change because of the circumstances around you? I think that at times our mood and how we are feeling are based on what is happening around us and that dictates whether or not we are enjoying our lives.
Can I tell you the truth? Jesus tells us that when storms come if we are building our life on Him, or the rock, we won’t fall down, but instead, we will be firm. However, if our lives are not built on Him, then when the storms come we will collapse (Matthew 7:24-27). I love this passage because Jesus tells us that things can happen because we have an adversary who prowls around like a roaring lion seeking to devour (1 Peter 5:8), and when we do have trials in our lives, the enemy cannot take us down if we are firmly placed on the Rock - Jesus Christ.
How in the world do we stay focused on Jesus when everything seems to be coming against us? How can we just experience peace and joy when we are being attacked and feeling so frustrated and angry? I have been there and I can tell you that you have a choice. You can choose to feel defeated, or you can choose to trust in what God says and that He is for you and not against you.
You can choose to stay sad or you can truly choose joy. You can literally be at total peace even when trials are right in your face because Isaiah 26:3 says “You will keep in perfect peace, all who trust in You, all whose thoughts are fixed on You!” It also says in Psalm 118:24 “This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” I want you to pay attention to the “we will”. We will means you are willing and choosing to be joyful regardless of what is going on around you.
Will you choose to keep your thoughts and mind fixed on Jesus today? Will you choose to be at peace and trust that God will work everything out for your good? (Romans 8:28) God loves you, and wants you to continually focus on Him, because when adversity comes, you will not only be prepared, but you will be victorious!
