Joy Unspeakable

One of the scriptures that speaks to me is 1 Peter 1:8 in the NLT says “You love Him even though you have never seen Him. Though you do not see Him now, you trust Him; and you rejoice with glorious, inexpressible joy.” The keywords are “inexpressible joy”. In the NKJV it’s translated to “joy unspeakable”. I am positive the person who is reading this right now can remember when they gave their life over to Jesus and why. It was because of the love He gave to us on the Cross, and it was the number of chances we were given even when we messed up. It was His love like a Father when we felt alone and abandoned - unloved and unworthy. It was His love and faithfulness that kept us together in the tough times.

You know why you love the Lord so much, and the amazing thing is - He loved us and chose us before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4). Before we were ever placed in our mother’s womb, God already knew us and had a plan for us (Jeremiah 1:5) Can you imagine joy unspeakable - a joy that just overflows in your heart? That is what we have in Christ Jesus. A joy that cannot be explained with words because we are set free from bondage and where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom (2 Corinthians 3:17). We trust him because He has proven to us that He who promised is faithful (Hebrews 10:23), and has always been faithful from the very beginning.

One part that caught my attention was that Peter says though you do not see Him NOW; you trust Him - why is that? Because we walk by faith and not by sight and faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1). Even though you don’t see Him, by faith you know that He lives within you, has worked on your behalf, has shown Himself throughout your life, and speaks to you day in and day out. You don’t need to physically see Jesus to know He is working on your behalf each second of the day. That is why you came to Him because you knew that throughout the mistakes, He was there. Being called by His name is something we should be joyful about in itself and to top it off we have so many beautiful blessings in Him and they are available to us at any moment because He died for us to have them all including joy unspeakable. Amen.
