Did you know we are a 3 part being? Yes! This means we are a spirit, we have a soul and we live in a body (1 Thessalonians 5:23). Our spirit is born again when we give our lives over to Jesus Christ and it’s renewed daily (2 Corinthians 4:16). We feed our spirit man with the Word of God and that’s how we grow strong spiritually and in faith.
We have a soul which comprises our will, our thoughts, and our emotions. Paul tells us in Romans 12:1-2 do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. We are to renew our minds with the Word of God but to also think on whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things (Philippians 4:8)
We live in a physical body that has to be put under subjection to the spirit daily. When we got born again, it was only our spirit man that got born again. Did you know that you have to train your body to be in alignment with the Word of God? 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. We are to honor God with our bodies, which means straying away from sinful behavior.
We understand that if we were to let the flesh dictate our lives it would bring us into all kinds of sins. We see it in Galatians 5:22 which says the acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions, and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
It’s important for us to be aware of this because when we get born again, we have to watch our thoughts, watch our words, watch out actions, and live every day according to the Word of God. Yes, we have to remain holy as God is Holy (1 Peter 1:15-16). Yes, we have to put our bodies under subjection and lean on the Lord to guide us every day. Feed your spirit daily with the Word of God. Meditate on the goodness of God and get a vision for your future! When you begin to grasp this, I believe God is going to build you up, and elevate you into the next phase He has for you!
