What is Your Favorite Scripture?

Do you have that one scripture that is your favorite? Not to say that the rest of the Bible isn’t something you love, but that one scripture that spoke to your spirit and you knew that was God speaking to you. I can relate. Before I got born again, I had a roommate who was a Christian and was one of the laborers sent into my life. One day we decided to go to Marshalls and we were looking in the mug section. I just so happen to see a mug that said “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future” Jeremiah 29:11.

At that moment, that scripture sowed a very big seed into my heart. I thought to myself wow I needed to hear this because that scripture described everything I needed to hear and know about God. It became a scripture I memorized through the tough times and I would say to myself God is protecting me because He said so in Jeremiah 29:11 or He is directing my steps because He said He had plans for me or I am going to make it through this tough time because He said He was going to prosper me. What confirmed that this is my favorite scripture was that shortly after I got married, my husband put a picture frame that has Jeremiah 29:11 without actually knowing that it was my favorite scripture. Later on, when I got my master's degree, I framed it right underneath it. It is a constant reminder every day that Jesus took me out of the miry bog and placed me on a firm foundation as stated in Psalm 20.

Despite me being stubborn and still being of the world in my past, that was Jesus leaving the 99 for me. He was coming after me even when I didn’t realize it at the time because I was too blind spiritually. Isn’t His mercy something to meditate on and thank Him for daily? I reflect back on this scripture when I saw it for the first time and I am so thankful that God didn’t give up on me during those dark times in my life. He gave me the exact words that I needed to see to know that He was not going to leave my side. His love goes deeper than we can ever imagine and those moments make you realize that there is no other love than the love of Jesus Christ.
