He Gives Us The Desires of Our Hearts!

Psalm 37:4 says “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” This verse does not indicate that God is a genie and will grant you every single desire you have because if we are honest, there are desires that if God had granted, we would not be in good shape! The Bible clearly tells us in Proverbs 14:12 “There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.” Why does it end in death? Because if we just go about our lives thinking we know everything and excluding God out of it, the end result will be death!

Our desires that we create for ourselves can sometimes be created out of hidden motives or hidden emotions such as jealousy, envy or even lust and if we are not careful we can then base our desires exclusively on that. There are things we “think” we desire and want but God has better plans! He is not moved by emotion and has no other motive or agenda other than to bless you and see His will and ways come to pass in your life!

So what does Psalm 37:4 mean? This verse tells us that, when we are aligned with God and His Word, and when we delight in Him and choose to follow Him and the plans He has for us, He strategically places desires within our hearts that He has planned to bring to pass. When we choose to want more of Jesus and His will for our lives, that is called delighting in Him. When we choose to seek God in all that we do, He is the one who shows us the path we should take! (Proverbs 3:5-6)

God placing those desires within our hearts is fully dependent on our willingness, obedience, and full commitment to Him. Jesus tells us that if we love Him we will obey Him (John 14:15) Obeying God, shows our love for Him. That is “delighting ourselves in Him”.

This verse tells us that when we seek God, when we keep our focus on Him and wanting to fully do what He has called us to do, He will place desires within our heart that are aligned with the Word and His perfect will for our lives. How powerful is that? You don’t even need to wonder what God wants you to do! You don’t have to seek anything other than Jesus! This is how you begin to discover your God-given destiny! How powerful is that?

1 Corinthians 2:11-12 says “No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us.” When we are aligning ourselves with God, we are aligning our thoughts with His because we have received the Holy Spirit and that positions us to receive those godly desires from Him.

I want to encourage you to seek God. Seek to know Him more. Seek to know more of His Will for your life. Seek the Kingdom of God. Seek to obey Him and only Him. This will align you to be in perfect position for the Lord to use you and for you to be in the perfect will of God!
