Does it truly matter who and what you surround yourself around? Let’s take a deeper look into the Bible and what God says about this. Matthew 6:22-23 says “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!” I think Jesus says it all right here. Your eyes are the lamp to your entire body. Your eye is the gate that lets in either light or darkness. What you watch and what you see is very important. Why? If you are constantly watching videos that do not build you up, that is depressing, or of this world and that includes all sin, that’s darkness being brought into your body. If you are watching videos that are about the word and listening to the word, your body is full of light, because the Gospel is the light.
Does it matter what you listen to? It matters 100%. Let’s take a look at Matthew 13:12 which says “To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given, and they will have an abundance of knowledge. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them.” This is very important because if you are listening to the Word of God such as sermons, and faith-building messages more understanding will be given to you. However, the opposite is also true. If you are listening to worldly music, to things that are not building you up, and instead of tearing you down, the little understanding or knowledge that you have will actually be taken away, because it’s being replaced with things that do not bring about true knowledge or revelation. Romans 10:17 says “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” Don’t you think the opposite is true too? Fear comes by listening to fearful things such as the news, scary movies, or even listening to music that is completely contrary to the Word of God. The devil is known as the prince of the air - that includes airwaves, radio waves, and even weather. Do you think satan is going to stop at making sinful music or movies that are full of sin? No, in fact, he is going to use that to the best of his ability to push his wicked agenda.
Does it matter what you say on a daily basis? Of course. Provers 18:21 says “death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” The power to speak life or death is right under your nose. What influences what comes out of your mouth? Your thoughts. What influences your thoughts? What you see and listen to on a daily basis. Do you see how everything is connected? Jesus says in Luke 6:45 “A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.” Your heart is your soul or your will and emotions. Out of what you are feeding yourself every day, will go from your ears to it being thoughts to your thoughts become words. If you are renewing your mind with the word of God on a daily basis according to Romans 12:1, your heart or soul will be filled with good things or the light.
It’s very important that we are in the Word of God daily, washing our minds with the Word of God and renewing our minds daily for us to speak life. Listen to God’s Word on a daily basis - whether it’s worship music to get into His Holy presence, listening to sermons, or being mindful of the movies you watch - it all matters.
